چکیده

Pepper weevil, Anthonomus eugenii Cano is the most harmful insect pest of pepper, Capsicum annum L., an important crop in Florida and several other states southern region United States. All commercially cultivated peppers, including jalapeño are susceptible to pepper weevil. The use broad-spectrum insecticides primary management tool for controlling Their continuous has led development resistance elimination natural enemies. Therefore, alternative approaches needed effective control. Studies were conducted evaluate effectiveness intercropping non-host repellent plants (Ocimum basilicum L. (basil), Tagetes patula (marigold), Brassica oleracea (cabbage), Coriandrum sativum (cilantro)) with on weevil population suppression. Each four consisted individual treatments compared a only (untreated control), or standard insecticide regimen thiamethoxam (positive control). Parameters evaluated include number adults plants, infested fallen fruit, marketable yield. Infested fruit collected from each treatment plot dissected (adult, pupae, larvae) density. plant reduced found weevils but not yield when control treatment. This information step forward into finding sustainable approach

Factors Affecting Pheromone Production by the Pepper Weevil, Anthonomus eugenii Cano (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) and Collection Efficiency

Several factors affecting pheromone production by male pepper weevils, Anthonomus eugenii Cano (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) as well as collection efficiency were investigated. Factors studied included: porous polymer adsorbents (Tenax versus Super Q), male age, time of day, male density, and male diet. Super Q was found to be a superior adsorbent for the male-produced alcohols and geranic acid a...

Organic Treatments for Control of Pepper Weevil (coleoptera: Curculionidae)

The pepper weevil, Anthonomus eugenii Cano (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) is a major pest of pepper (Capsicum spp.; Solanales: Solanaceae) in the southern United States, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. Feeding and oviposition cause flower and fruit abscission and internal fruit damage resulting in serious yield losses. Females lay eggs in flower buds and small fruits, shielding larvae f...

Pepper weevil attraction to volatiles from host and nonhost plants.

The location of wild and cultivated host plants by pepper weevil (Anthonomus eugenii Cano) may be aided by visual cues, the male-produced aggregation pheromone, herbivore-induced, or constitutive host plant volatiles. The attractiveness of constitutive plant volatiles to pioneer weevils is important in understanding, and perhaps controlling, dispersal of this insect between wild and cultivated ...

Pepper Weevil (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) Preferences for Specific Pepper Cultivars, Plant Parts, Fruit Colors, Fruit Sizes, and Timing

Peppers (Capsicum spp.) are an important crop in the USA, with about 32,000 ha cultivated in 2007, which resulted in $588 million in farm revenue. The pepper weevil, Anthonomus eugenii Cano (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), is the most troublesome insect pest of peppers in the southern United States. It is therefore urgent to find different vulnerabilities of pepper cultivars, fruit and plants parts...

Molecular diagnostic for boll weevil (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) based on amplification of three species-specific microsatellites.

The boll weevil, Anthonomus grandis grandis Boheman (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), is a serious pest of cultivated cotton, Gossypium hirsutum L., in the Americas, and reinfestation of zones from which they have been eradicated is of perpetual concern. Extensive arrays of pheromone traps monitor for reintroductions, but occasionally the traps collect nontarget weevils that can be misidentified by ...
